A landmark moon-shaped concert theatre in Sharjah, including 50,000 sq ft with seating for 500 people and performance stages. BuildNG engineered the complex structure with minimal columns, balancing static and dynamic loads to deliver a gravity-defying design.
Anchored in Sharjah’s evolving cultural landscape, the concert theatre’s iconic moon silhouette floats above the ground plane, minimizing visible support elements and maximizing spatial ambiance. The auditorium is naturally tiered, harmonizing immersive audience sightlines with stage prominence. At structural core is an advanced shell-and-suspension system—designed to manage heavy load demands without contraposing aesthetic transparency.
This architectural marvel balances engineering ingenuity with audience experience: the structural schema employs strategically integrated prestressed shells and tensioned cables, creating a visually dematerialized structure. The result is the appearance of a hovering moon-shaped build—elevated above the cityscape, yet grounded in confident structural performance. High-impact zones like the stage thrust and rigging supports are reinforced with concealed trusses, all fine-tuned for static stability and dynamic vibration control.
Load Management in Free-form Geometry
The undulating, lunar shell form introduces unconventional load distribution patterns. We crafted a bespoke load path system—RC core wall and just 3 inclined columns.
Minimal-Column Strategy for Aesthetic Levitating Effect
To honor the architect’s vision of a floating form, we needed to dramatically reduce visible columns. This meant pushing structural strategy toward deep perimeter trusses and hidden core supports—carefully balancing load, deflection, and constructability.
Synergy of Static and Dynamic Performance
Hosting up to 500 people and dynamic stage equipment demands robust yet sensitive structural responses. We engaged dynamic modeling to ensure occupant comfort, vibration mitigation, and resonance control—while sustaining the ethereal form.
Integration of Acoustic Isolation & Mechanical Load Zones
The stage area imposes both architectural drama and heavy mechanical support requirements. We seamlessly integrated technical systems without compromising structural purity.
